Where Every Meal is Memorable

At Ximuwu, the culinary experience does not begin in the kitchen — it begins with the question of where you’ll eat. Each meal is placed in its environment deliberately, catered to your dietary preferences and tastes.

Enjoy a hearty breakfast spread after your morning game drive. For lunch, try an elegant high tea or casual picnic in our restaurant or outdoors. Savour a luxurious bush dinner, complete with cocktails or carefully paired wines, under the African sky before a night safari.

The kitchen takes a broad, creative approach to its menu, combining different cuisines to create an unforgettable dining experience, always anchored by fresh ingredients and precise technique. Whether your preference is refined and composed or relaxed and informal, the kitchen adapts.

FLAVOURS OF THE WORLD

Gourmet Bush Dining and Wine

The most memorable meals at Ximuwu are not always the ones in the dining room.

Enjoy a bush breakfast at a game drive stop, with the landscape still cool and birdsong surrounding you. Bush dinners are set in the reserve after dark under the starlight. In between, you might opt for a casual picnic or cocktails by the pool.

For romantic moments, choose our private starlit deck — the perfect setting for unforgettable evenings in the heart of the African bush.

THE BAR

South African Wines & the Art of Pairing

Ximuwu’s bar is the lodge’s social heart, where a well-chosen glass of wine becomes part of the evening’s atmosphere.

For guests interested in exploring South African wine seriously, our sommelier, Albert, along with Sibusiso, is an excellent guide. Our wine selection is curated to complement the flavours of the daily menu.

We also offer other options. Enjoy a classic cocktail by the pool, or opt for a cold beer after a morning in the bush.

A UNIQUE TASTE

The Mobile Pizza Oven

Not every evening at Ximuwu looks the same. Some nights, lodge managers Rudi and Melinda set up the mobile wood-fired pizza oven on the outdoor deck, and our kitchen gives way to a more casual dining setting.

After a busy day of observing the local wildlife, relax and savour a slice of artisanal pizza while taking in the beauty of the African night sky.

  • A while ago, a pride of lions arrived at this waterhole and attacked several hyenas, including cubs from the clan.

Recently, a mother hyena and her young pup have begun returning — cautious and nervous, constantly watching the darkness around them.

But returning nonetheless.
  • The elephants are absolutely thriving right now ✨

With all the rain this season, the bush has turned into a lush green paradise — thick grass as far as you can see, water everywhere, and endless feeding opportunities. The energy out there is something special… playful mud baths, splashing in the waterholes, and herds moving through like they’ve got nowhere else to be but happy 🐘
  • Today is World Leopard Day, and it feels fitting to look back at a truly special sighting from this week at Ximuwu.

Our guests were treated to an incredible encounter with a magnificent male leopard, completely at ease in his surroundings. He moved slowly through the bush, pausing often, allowing everyone to settle in and simply observe. For over an hour, the sighting unfolded at its own pace, with this stunning cat giving us the privilege of following him as he went about his day.

There is something unforgettable about spending that kind of time with a leopard in the wild.
At Ximuwu, we are lucky to share this landscape with them, and even luckier when they choose to share their time with us 🐆🍀
